A visit to FATA Secretariat

At the almost end of 1st semester of DPSM (Diploma in Public Sector Management, a 6 months course designed for P.M.S probationers at IM Sciences), visits to different government departments were arranged by the administration for giving a first hand experience to the future’s bureaucracy of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa. Our group was scheduled to visit FATA Secretariat situated at Warsak road Peshawar. Sharply at 9:00 in the morning we were there. It was really disgusting to see the bared environment at first instance. Tough security measures including barriers, check posts, blockades, sand containers and a lot more were portraying an unpleasant view but it is a bitter truth that ongoing law & order situation in this part of the world has turned the government installments and institutions into a no-go areas. FATA Sect is not an exception at all, so a tough situation welcomes the visitor at the entrance.  

Passing through the corridors I was quite sympathetic for the civil servants of this institution that how unpleasant work environment has been created around them. When we entered the conference room of FATA Sec, cool internal environment and warm welcome by officials result in a complete change of opinion. Rest all was perfect. Almost 6 hours stay at the secretariat established the view of a great zeal and comfort. Despite of the fact that security is the foremost concern of today’s life in K.P.K and this has made the life so difficult, great traditions of hospitality and friendliness brings the positive posture to the front very soon.

 

We attended a briefing about working and performance of FATA Secretariat, visited different departments in groups and had quite useful discussion with respective officials and had a very very fruitful questions-answers session. It was amazing to learn that despite of grave security concerns and law & order situation, what a great job has been and being done by this very department. We were also told that this is an ‘infant’ in fact and just in 4th year of her life.

We had a great time there, enjoyed, learn a lot and prayed for a successful life of FATA Secretariat.
